Setting up a Nutraceutical Powder Milling System?

When designing the milling step within the factory production line , the options can be overwhelming. It’s easy to be tempted by cheap or quick solutions that deliver instant results, but often these quick wins can’t perform at commercial scale.

Also, with FDA and other regulations still evolving, it can be difficult to ensure that your nutraceutical processing machinery will continue to meet future legislation without incurring more cost.

Quadro aims to help you select the right milling & sifting solution to reach your manufacturing objectives.

What does efficient nutraceutical milling look like?

The primary barrier to efficient industrial scale processing is overly complex equipment and machinery, often with ancillary parts. Complexity makes equipment difficult to maintain effectively, also leaving it vulnerable to overheating and breakdown, and consequent product loss.

This becomes an even more difficult process when milling the more delicate powders at an industrial scale and trying to maintain the ideal milled particle profile.

For most applications, the active nutraceutical works best when it is a fine powder as this improves the dissolution rate, bioavailability and stability. However, these powders need to be free of lumps and with a uniform particle size. Some can be heat sensitive, and degrade resulting in poor quality products. Therefore, when size reducing heat-sensitive powders, it’s important to have a well-controlled and a low-temperature operating milling step.

Robust, future-proof nutraceutical milling equipment

Quadro’s Overdriven Comil® series addresses these challenges with its industry-leading conical mill.

The Overdriven series is perfect for dry milling, with a range of changeable impellers and screens that can be selected in order to achieve your target particle size. With a low operating temperature, the Comil® protects the delicate powders for a better final product quality. Particles are deagglomerated in-flow, removing the need for sieving.

With Comil® sizes to suit all capacity ranges, our solutions are easily scalable from lab testing right through to thousands of kilos per shift, meaning we are well equipped to help you navigate the coming increase in demand.

Additionally, because Comil® is already the industry standard for food and pharmaceutical processing, it complies with FDA and GMP regulation, leaving you prepared for future legislation.
